WGSN - S/S16 Macro Trends ‘Past Modern’

A trend is 'a general direction in which something is developing or changing.' Trend or fashion forecasting is research based, information is gathered years in advance from a range of areas such as technology, science, film, art and economics. The data is meticulously analysed to accurately predict trends. Fashion impacts a number of industries including interior design, consumer electronics, media, entertainment, lifestyle and advertising. Fashion forecasting provides invaluable insights for brands and businesses, it aids in defining objectives, informs design and production decisions and helps to maintain a consistent brand identity.

WGSN Prediction S/S16

'The timeless qualities of historical and contemporary design are showcased with stripped back products that bring together the old and the new with museums and galleries being used as a contextual backdrop.'

This trend is based around past and modern references such as art from the 1600's, sculptures, punched leather, geometric patterns and bubble wrap. It is a clash of periods and styles. The shades of colour used are very similar to those in Victorian paintings.
